Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Pick of the Week: After School Bikes

Find out what’s on Rife Guide this week, including an afterschool bike workshop.

It’s January, and let’s face it, the festive times are well and truly over. The leftover turkey sandwiches are a distant memory; the Christmas tree trimmings have started gathering their annual collection of dust and Will Farrell in an elf outfit will not grace our screens for at least 11 months.

But it is the time for a fresh start. Want to be physically fitter? More mentally alert? Be happy? Save money? Save the planet? Get places quicker? Be independent? Well, get on a bike. The benefits of cycling are endless, so why not check out The Bristol Bike Project’s workshop, After School Bikes.

Every Friday after school you can take your bike along to Hamilton House for a free drop-in session. If your bike needs a bit of TLC to get it running smoothly, or you just want to learn the skills to maintain it, then give your bike the attention it deserves.

The sessions are suitable for ages 13-24. Don’t worry if you can’t attend this week, they run every week. Expert bike mechanics are on hand to teach you everything you need to keep your bike in tip-top form. Don’t be afraid to get a bit of oil on your hands.

It’s free to attend this session, and it runs from 3.30pm to 6pm. If you don’t have a bike, don’t worry. You get in contact with The Bristol Bike Project and ask them about the Young Person’s Earn-a-Bike Programme. Full details of After School Bikes can be found here, on the Rife Guide.

We want to see you fixing up your bike! Let us know how it’s going by tagging us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Or just tell us what else you’re getting up in the new year.
