Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Pick of the Week: Fridays at the Station

This week, Hal travels a very short distance to the centre of town, but what does he find?

Where exactly is there for young people to go, for free, in the centre of Bristol? That’s what I want to know. Of course if you’re a little older, with your newly acquired (legal) ID and some money in the bank, it’s a different story altogether. It’s easy to forget that for those who are under 18, with little to spend and fewer places to go, the city centre can feel like quite a different place. Thankfully, there is always The Station.

Situated inside the old fire station in Broadmead, The Station is one of Bristol’s best dedicated centres for young people. It’s a very welcoming place, a cool location to meet friends and relax in the centre of town. They run sessions here every day of the week, the majority of them open to everyone 13-19 without booking or prior arrangement. You can just turn up at reception and join in.

If you’d like to make your first trip to the Station, Big Chill Fridays is a good place to start. Running from 6.30pm- 9pm every week during term-time, it’s an incredibly popular open session, and there’s something to do whatever you’re into, from pool and gaming to food, group projects and the famous Chill Challenge. There’s a practice space for aspiring musicians and DJs, and lots of advice and support available if you need someone to talk to.

If you’re looking to try new things, make friends and join a community of young people in the centre of Bristol, you owe it to yourself to check out The Station.
